I’m extremely excited (and a little nervous) to announce my FIRST solo show ‘Body Dysmorphia’ at the Upstairs Gallery at ArtPoint Gallery & Studio Society!
From December 2nd-January 28th, you can see the works I’ve created this year, a series specifically focusing on body dysmorphic disorder (BDD), a mental illness revolving around body image issues that results in depression and social phobia, and the ages in which these insecurities and ideas are developing.
“These painted portraits were created as a visual interpretation of discomfort in ones skin. Feeling as through the measurements of our bodies hold us back in situations, the portraits depict the artists own hurdle of feeling restricted because of her image, amidst the demanding standard of beauty that is enforced by the media, and the same pressures reinforced by society.”
During the opening reception ONLY, art prints will be for sale with a share of proceeds going to the Calgary Silver Linings Foundation.
Calgary Silver Linings Foundation (CSLF) was formed in June 2014 by a group of committed parents, mental health professionals and business leaders concerned about the devastating nature of eating disorders and their increasing prevalence; and wanting Albertans with eating disorders, and their loved ones, to receive the best treatment possible as soon as possible. CSLF’s vision is to bridge gaps in accessibility and care of eating disorders in Alberta. The organization’s mission is to work collaboratively to create a world-class residential eating disorder treatment centre in Alberta. I hope to see many of you who have supported me so far at the exhibition! I’m thrilled to showcase my work to the community, and to help a fantastic local organization while doing so!
